Whether with your family or on your own, LaGrange offers plenty of activities to experience. It’s a great place to either relax and unwind or get in the action. 

West Point Lake — Spend your weekends exploring the 525 miles of shoreline on beautiful West Point Lake. It’s the perfect place for swimming, boating and fishing. The lake offers two full-service marinas, cabin and boat rentals, abundant campgrounds and plenty of picnic areas. Along the shoreline, you can enjoy activities from hiking and biking to camping and bird watching.

Golfing — If golf’s your game, you’re in a sweet spot in LaGrange. Experience championship caliber golf at historic Highland Country Club. Designed by Donald Ross, the course boasts pine tree-lined fairways and immaculate greens. Or play Scottish links style at the Overlook Golf Links, with its open fairways and scenic vistas. 

Callaway Gardens — A short drive south of LaGrange, you’ll find Callaway Gardens, a 13,000-acre retreat, where you can enjoy biking, fishing, golf and more. Or you can just relax and take in the beauty of the gardens.

LaGrange offers a wide range of quality educational opportunities, from public to private schools. Besides a challenging learning environment, LaGrange offers plenty of activities outside of school, from athletics and dance to theater and music.

Pre-K through 12th — Whether you choose a public or private school, you’ll know you made the right move when your child’s principal greets him or her by name at the door. Through Troup County Schools, the local public school system, your child will discover academics, athletics, art, language, music, drama and perhaps, most importantly, a place to fit in and truly shine.

Troup County Parks and Recreation — One of the best in the state, our recreation department boasts world-class fields and facilities. You’ll find sports of all kinds, for all ages, including baseball, softball, soccer, karate, tennis, swimming, cheerleading, golf through the First Tee program and much more.

LaGrange College — Ranked among the U.S. News & World Report top 10 regional colleges for earning a bachelor’s degree, LaGrange College is the oldest private college in Georgia. It’s focused on providing a superior and transformative education for its students, with a wide range of majors to choose from, including a nursing program that works closely with WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.

West Georgia Technical College — A member of the Technical College System of Georgia, West Georgia Technical College provides an excellent learning experience and skills applicable to today’s workforce. With more than 110 approved programs of study, West Georgia Tech is finding new ways each day to meet the needs of our growing community and its students.

Experience Arts and Culture

LaGrange offers the charm of a small town, with the sophistication of a big city — including a wide range of cultural experiences. From art and architecture to the theater and symphony, you’ll find it all in LaGrange.

LaGrange Art Museum — Inside the LaGrange Art Museum, a high caliber of art exhibits converge with community awareness. Redefining small-town visual arts, the museum features displays by locally, nationally and world-renowned artists, along with a variety of educational offerings.

Legacy Museum on Main — Hundreds of artifacts depicting traditional life in LaGrange are on display at the Legacy Museum on Main. From the Civil War to the Industrial Revolution to present day, the museum gives a unique look into the history of our area.

Explorations in Antiquity Center — A living museum of life in ancient times, the Explorations in Antiquity Center offers tours of its authentic first century Middle Eastern village. The center also provides biblical meal presentations and lectures.

LaGrange Symphony Orchestra — Whether performing selections from classic composers or premiering new works, Maestro Patricio Cobos and the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra deliver an exquisite musical experience throughout each season. The LSO also provides a wide range of programs for youth, including its Musicians in Schools program.

Lafayette Society for Performing Arts — The LSPA entertains the community with about 30 performances each season through its distinct Artistic Companies — the Lafayette Dance Academy, the Lafayette Theatre Company and the Azalea Storytelling Festival. The organization also includes a youth choir and outreach program for local schools.

Hills & Dales Estate — A must-see for architectural, horticulture or history aficionados, Hills & Dales estate is the former home of textile magnate Fuller E. Callaway Sr. The estate features an Italian villa designed by noted architectural firm Hentz & Reid and the historic Ferrell Gardens, along with educational workshops and lectures.

Get Involved

LaGrange is a community of people dedicated to giving back. With so many volunteer opportunities, it’s easy to get involved and be a part of the community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Chattahoochee Valley — Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children ages 6-14 with mentors in professionally supported one-on-one relationships. By spending just four hours a month, a big brother or sister can change a young person’s life.

LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society — The local humane society, which includes a state-of-the-art animal shelter, is dedicated to helping animals in need. Volunteers assist with taking animals out into the community, doing fundraisers, bringing animals to the vet and much more.

United Way — Along with its 28 agencies, United Way of West Georgia provides the community with many ways to get involved and have fun at the same time. Events range from dinners and fundraisers to cook-offs and banquets. Some of the United Way agencies include:
